Worsted :
This type of yarn is the most common commerical yarn made. The fibers are aligned in one direction and tightly spun. This method uses longer fibers 3 - 6 inches, which increases the strengtht of the yarn, however it can decrease the handle.
Semi Worsted:
This is the most common and desired yarn processing request. It is a combination of both worsted and woolen. Which is using the long and short fibers.The fibers are then aligned in one direction however not as tightly, allowing for some air in the yarn to create a soft handle and some loft to the yarn like a woolen yarn.
Woolen:
This type of yarn creates a bulky, soft and lofty yarn. Fibers used to create a woolen yarn are short 2.5 inches or less and the fibers have a random arrangement trapping air.
